The present study was developed to evaluate the cephalometrical changes of treatment of Class II division 1 malocclusion, involving patients of both sex during the craniofacial growth period. The sample consisted of 22 patients (11 males and 11 females) with initial mean age of 9 years, treated with the Fränkel appliance. The results were obtained using two lateral cephalometric headfilms taken of each patient at the beginning and the end of treatment, in a total of 44 headfilms. The objective of this investigation was to compare the cephalometric changes, considering the sexual dimorphism. The results showed that there was sexual dimorphism for Co-A. The maxilar protrusion was reduced (SNA) and its effective lenght was significantly incresed. It was concluded that there was a significant increase in mandibular growth (mandibular ramus and body). The skeletal profile and maxilomandibular sagital relation improved with the treatment. There was no significant change in skeletal facial pattern, however there was a significant increase in lower anterior face height. The upper incisors were retroinclined and retruded and the lower incisors were protruded, while the lower molars experience a significant extrusion at the end of the treatment. The soft tissue profile improved; the upper lips were retruded and the lower lips showed a significantly protrusion at the end of treatment.
