Nowadays a combined therapeutic approach has been used in the correction of Class II, Division 1 malocclusion. Firstly, the sagital skeletal discrepancies are corrected by functional orthopedic appliances and at the end a conventional fixed appliance is employed. In this study, patients treated combining activator with extraoral anchorage in the beginning and using Edgewise appliance at the end were compared using the cephalometric analysis with those whe were treated only by the Edgewise appliance. By the methology it was noticed that the differences between the changes caused by both therapeutic approaches were not statistically significant. However, clinically the ortopedic-orthodontic combined treatment trended to be more favourable in the correction of maxilary protrusion and mandibular retrusion in the period of craniofacial growth.
