The search for sterilization in the orthodontic clinics is increasing. This is due to the largest incidence of the hepatitis B among the dentistry, and mainly among orthodontics. Due to high rotativety of patients in this specialty, the orthodontists seeks a faster and more secure method of sterilization, for the quantity of necessary instruments decreased in the clinical practice. In this research the effectiveness of the sterilization was tested in the dry-heat sterilizers at 190ºC for 6 minutes, and in the steam autoclave under pressure at 135ºC in 3,5 minutes. These are the most used methods among orthodontists, although few references have been presented. The methods proposed for sterilization were considered accepted
