A Variation in the Design of the Rapid Maxillary Expansion Device in the Treatment of the Deciduous and Early Mixed Dentition

Rapid maxillary expansion has been used to correct maxillary constriction in patients in the deciduous and early mixed dentition. The characteristics of these early stages of the dentition require a variation in the expander appliance proposed by Hass, which was designed for the permanent dentition. We have suggested, 10 years ago, a variation that guarantees the same stability of the conventional appliance, thus adding a greater retention to the teeth. We use a simple and safer appliance, which demands a smaller chair time.
