This study was undertaken to evaluate the variation of the angle between sella-nasion and Frankfort horizontal reference lines (SN.PoOr) and to determine which of these two cephalometric references may be considered the most reliable one. The sample was comprised of 85 lateral cephalometric roentgenograms obtained from white Brazilian youths with Angle Class I and II malocclusions and identical cephalometric maxillary and mandibular anteroposterior and vertical positions. The results showed a high variation of the SN.PoOr angle and allowed us to conclude that it was caused mostly by the inclination of sella-nasion Line.

Keywords: Sella-nasion Line. Frankfort horizontal plane. anteroposterior and vertical maxilary and mandibular positions.
