Temporomandibular Disturbances Screening in the Orthodontic Examination

Screening for Temporomandibular Disturbances (TMD) should be part of the routine orthodontic examination. The presence of pain, joint noises, muscular and TMJ tenderness and range and quality of the mandibular movements should be evaluated. If TMD is suspected, a more in deep evaluation of the medical and dental history of the patient and of the signs and symptoms must be conducted. These findings must be presented and discussed with the patient.
