Research in Orthodontics: Basis for its Production and its Critical Analysis

Being the object of studies of the Scientific Methodology and the Inferential Statistics, the precepts for the elaboration of research and for data analysis are pertinent in various sciences. The purpose of thes article was to varify some of these precepts correlating them to Orthodontics through several examples. As far as science is concerned, research has been defined. The fact that the methodological models of research applied in Orthodontics include the experimental and non-experimental (observing) types has been acknowledged and the randomized clinical trial constitute a procedure of great scientific support for the assessment of therapeutic interventions. Furthermore, the article refers to a protocol since the production until the publication of the research which includes: 1- outline; 2- elaboration of the project of reserch; 3- data collection, 4- data exhibition or presentation; 5- data analysis; 6- written elaboration. After all, sedding for publication. One concludes that the knowledge, step-by-step, of the elaboration of research enables the neophyte researcher as well as the clinician to make a critical analysis of the printed scientific artiches and consider them through some criteria in the elaboration of research for publication.
