Orthognathic Surgery - Complication or Solution? A Manual for Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment

Facial orthopedics and orthodontics are the part of dentistry concerned with correction of skeletal discrepancies and teeth position. In cases where growth is complete, the correction of these discrepancies with orthodontic appliances is almost impossible. Orthognathic surgery, another part of dentistry, in conjunction with orthodontics, restores the dentofacial harmony. Today surgicalorthodontic treatment is a reality in all orthodontics offices. There are, therefore, needs of knowledge of both subjects for successful treatment. The proposal of this paper is to show all steps of the basic mechanics of orthodontics for orthognathic surgery.
