A Skeletal Class II Transverse Maxillary Deficiency Treatment with Cervical Traction and Rapid Palatal Expansion

Roberto M. A. LIMA, Anna Letícia LIMA

Anteroposterior skeletal maxillary discrepancy is often related with transverse maxillary deficiency. This case report shows the use of rapid maxillary expansion with cervical traction in treatment of a skeletal Class II Division 1 transverse maxillary deficiency and anterior open bite. Treatment allowed a normal and stable occlusal relationship between maxillary and mandibular arches with teeth in an ideal transverse relationship and with normal buccolingual inclination. The cervical traction produced a remarkable orthopedic effect in correcting the skeletal Class II.
