We evaluated the functional characteristics of patients Class II division 1 malocclusion of Angle in a sample of 30 subjects from Brazil. Patients were caucasians, female and male, with ages ranging from 14 years old and six month to 25 years old and seven month, with permanent dentition and no previous orthodontic treatment. In this group, using the video-endoscopy, was possible to identify the etiologic factors and the location of the obstruction in the upper airway in all patients. Our results showed that: a) 100% of the sample showed turbinates hypertrophy; b) deviated nasal septum was present in 66,66% the patients; c) the obstructive factors can be multiples and localized in the oropharynx, nasal cavities and nasopharynx, and d) that a adenoids hypertrophy would have to be larger enough to affect the nasal airway resistance.
