Marcos dos Reis Pereira JANSON, Reinaldo dos Reis Pereira JANSON, Paulo Martins FERREIRA

The present paper is intended to show different ways to accomplish the molar uprighting movement with fixed appliances, and discuss, based on the literature and clinical cases, the interdisciplinary treatment. Molar uprighting is an orthodontic therapy, very useful in adult patients, and important for prosthetic, periodontal and implant procedures. Many improvements can be accomplished during molar uprighting, like obtaining parallelism of the roots that will support prosthesis, the gaining of proper edentulous space, elimination or reduction of vertical bone defects without the need of surgical procedures in this way also obtaining a better crown-root ratio of periodontally involved molars. With parallel roots, the oclusal forces are directed to the long axes of the teeth, allowing good function and preserving the periodontium.

Keywords: Interdisciplinary treatment. Molar uprighting. Minor tooth movement. Limited orthodontics.
