The glass-ionomer cements have been used in orthodontic bonding because it´s beneficial properties: adhesion to dental structures, biocompatibility and cariostatic effect of continuous fluoride release. Although, the success of bonding technique is dependent of the power/liquid proportion and the material´s manipulation. The aim of this special topical is to orient the professionals about the characteristics of the glass-ionomers and the care during the clinical technique of brackets and bands bonding to obtain an effective fixation during orthodontic therapy.
