Preoperative and Postoperative Cephalometric Analysis of the Fibonacci Proportions in Patients treated with Mandibular Advancement

Marcelo Marotta ARAUJO, Luis Augusto PASSERI, Antenor ARAUJO

In this study the Fibonacci proportions PFr-A/A-Pm, A-1/1-Pm and Co-Xi/Xi-Pm, described by Ricketts (1982) were evaluated, in ten patients, leucoderms, of both sexes, between the ages of 16 to 44, who underwent bilateral saggital split osteotomy for correction of mandibular deficiency. Cephalograms in preoperatives and post-operatives x-rays were made. Variance analysis and Student “t” test were performed. It were concluded that patients had differents responses. Statistical difference were found between the preoperative and post-operative data in the A-1/1-Pm and Co-Xi/Xi-Pm proportions; there was no statistical difference in PFr-A/A-Pm proportion. The situation where the proportion did not exist in the preoperative xray and exist in the postoperative xray ocurred in 2 patients in the proportions PFr-A/A-Pm and Co-Xi/XiPm, and in one patient in the proportion A-1/1-Pm. In this group of patients, the Fibonacci proportions were not found in the skeletals alterations ocurred with the mandibular advancement surgery.
