Early Treatment of Class III Malocclusion With Maxillary Expansion and Face-Mask Therapy - A Case Report

The early orthodontic treatment have been indicated frequently with objective from elimination of primary etiologic factors and avoid that malocclusion already instaled is worse. The elimination of occlusal discrepancies such as unilateral, bilateral posterior crossbites, anterior crossbite and the correction of skeletal dysplasia represent the true need of early intervention. As facial and dental development continues throughout childhood and adolescence, the long-term impact of early treatment may not be predicted, but the early intervention may help develop a normal occlusion and facial harmony. The maxillary expansion and face-mask therapy, in Class III of Angle malocclusion, used in deciduos or mixed phases, have been employed with sucess in last years. The objective of this study is to review the literature and presents a case report where this treatment philosophy was used and very good results were reached.
