Interdisciplinary Treatment II - Esthetics and Biological Width: Orthodontic Alternatives to Vertical Remodelling of the Periodontium

Marcos dos Reis Pereira JANSON, Euloir PASSANEZI, Reinaldo dos Reis Pereira JANSON, Arnaldo PINZAN

Periodontal modifications by means of teeth movement is a predictable procedure, considering the unity character of tooth-periodontal membrane-alveolar bone, i.e., as the tooth is moved, the periodontium follows the movement, since there is periodontal health conditions, with no inflammation. Based on these evidences, forced eruption is used to produce different modalities of treatment, such as: to reestablish the biologic width in fractured, perforated, with extensive caries lesions and root resorption teeth, to reduce infrabony vertical defects, to develop the implant site in cases where a compromised tooth will be extracted and to level the gingival topography. The purpose of this article is to revise the literature, establish treatment protocols, suggest a new term to determined procedure and to discuss this subject based on the literature and clinical cases.

Keywords: Forced eruption. Minor tooth movement. Interdisciplinary treatment.
