Midsymphyseal Distraction Osteogenesis

Distraction osteogenesis is performed in the symphyseal region as an alternative approach to orthopedic and orthodontic mandibular expansion. An approximately 13 year-old boy presenting Brodie bite and mandibular crowding was submitted to such approach, targeting his mandibular basis expansion. The orthodontic and surgical treatment protocols are described and discussed, allowing its reproduction. Quantitative results, advantagens and disadvantages are critically exposed.
