Alterations of Deciduous Occlusal Arch in Complete Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate

In order to evaluate the primary occlusal alterations of the unilateral complete cleft lip and palate children, a clinical examination was carried out on 74 white children, operated on cleft lip and palate at the Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais of University of the São Paulo (HRAC- USP), in Bauru - SP. The results showed that occlusal alterations occurred early in those patients, and they were specific cleft characteristics, independent of the sex. The high frequency of some type of crossbite (90.5%), and crossbite involving the antero-posterior relationship (63.4%), as the Class II canine relation on the cleft side and Class III on the non cleft side, in such little children, bring us to think about the future rehabilitation of those patients.
