Oral lipomas: clinical-therapeutic aspects of a university hospital

Lipomas are benign mesenchymal neoplasms composed of mature adipocytes with rare manifestation in the buccal and maxillofacial regions. Its pathogenesis is uncertain, and different histological variants are found in the literature. The aim of the present study was to report three cases of intrabuccal lipomas from a Buccomaxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology department. In the reported cases the patients did not complain of pain, but presented nodular volume increase, of rubbery consistency, smooth surface and yellowish coloration. All were treated by means of excisional biopsy, and the histopathological pattern was simple lipoma, being observed in alveolar mucosa, lip and jugal mucosa.
