Benign lipomatous neoplasm: case report

The aim of this study was to report the case of a 54 year-old patient, who attended the Surgery and Traumatology Oral and Maxillofacial outpatient of Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health/General Hospital Roberto Santos (EBMSP/HGRS) due to an rounded and softened increase in volume, with approximately 6cm in diameter, which compromised the lower right side of face and caused cosmetic damage to the patient Lipomas are common benign tumors of soft tissue that have mesenchymal origin and are composed of mature fat cells. They are generally soft nodular masses, with slow and flat growth that may be pedicle, sessile, single or lobed, asymptomatic, can measure 3cm or more, and macroscopically have yellowish color. They affect mainly males between third and fifth decades of life. The most common form of treatment is surgical excision, recurrence is rare, but can occur in some cases. Surgical treatment was instituted by excisional biopsy confirming a suspected diagnosis of lipoma At this time, patient is in outpatient follow-up by the Surgery and Traumatology Oral and Maxillofacial staff.
