Reconstruction of condyle with methacrylate in patients with osteoradionecrosis

Luiz Renério Prestes Dantas, Roque Miguel Rhoden, Andréia Vargas

To give the oral and maxillofacial surgeons a new alternative in the reconstruction of condyles when mutilating lesions are present and there is no impediment to the realization of other reconstruction alternatives. 53-yearold male patient, irradiated, presenting osteorradionecrosis, received surgical treatment with reconstruction of the left condyle with PMMA. The procedure performed on the left condyle gave the patient an improvement in living conditions, considering that in the first week, was withdrawn the nasogastric tube and started with liquid or cold/warm pasty feed. After a month, patient significantly increased weight being under control for bilateral placement of bone grafts. An alternative treatment in condyles reconstruction with poly(methyl methacrylate) is possible, which proved to be compatible with the body, considering that this material is used in surgery for bone healing in the skull.
