Introduction / his study assessed the bond strength to resin composite of a layering ceramic submitted to diferent surface treatments. / Methods / hirty ceramic discs (IPS e.max Ceram, Ivoclar, Vivadent) (5-mm diameter, 2-mm high) were manufactured and randomly divided into three groups (n = 10) according to the treatment applied to ceramic surface: G1) 10% luoridric acid conditioning for 20 seconds; G2) aluminum oxide sandblasting + 10% luoridric acid conditioning for 20 seconds; G3) aluminum oxide sandblasting. Subsequently, silane-coupling agent was applied for 60 seconds followed by one layer of adhesive (Tetric N-Bond, Ivoclar, Vivadent) light-cured for 20 seconds. Samples were ixed to a metallic device, where microhybrid resin composite cylinders were built. After being stored for 24 hours, samples were submitted to shear bond strength testing (speed of 0.5 mm/min). Data was submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) with signiicance level set at 5%. Fracture pattern (adhesive, cohesive, mixed) was analyzed by stereomicroscopy (20 x magniication). / Results / here was no statistical difference among bond strength values of G1, G2 and G3. As for the fracture pattern, cohesive was predominant in ceramic pattern. / Conclusion / Association of aluminum oxide sandblasting and 10% luoridric acid conditioning did not enhance bond strength of vitreous ceramic to resin composite when compared to these agents applied in isolation.
