Anterior aesthetic rehabilitation – how to achieve back the success after unexpected failure: a case report

Introduction: In modern society and contemporary Dentistry, the search for proper function and good aesthetics is predominant. In order to achieve increasingly beautiful, harmonic and natural results, the development of indirect material used in oral rehabilitation is constant. Examples of indirect material widely used are pure ceramic crowns (metal-free) and highly aesthetic-content systems, such as IPS e.max. However, unexpected events, such as root fracture, remain unpredictable in daily practice. Thus, a resolution for this problem must be well thought because these events can conduct rehabilitation to failure. Methods: This paper reports a clinical case of initial aesthetic success, achieved by means of metal-free maxillary incisors crowns, lost due to longitudinal root fracture in one of the restored elements. One of the potential alternatives carried out by means of modern procedures capable of anticipating how to overcome failure and how to recover results and patient’s expectations was discussed. Results and Conclusions: Combining surgical and prosthetic procedures with the support of reverse planning and modern techniques, for the sake of good work while respecting the affected tissues, allows harmonious and satisfactory results to be achieved.
