The challenge of treating a Class II division 1 malocclusion with agenesis in the lower arch: Case report

This case report describes the orthodontic treatment of a seven years old patient, who presented Angle Class II division 1 malocclusion, associated with anterior open bite and agenesis of one lower incisor. The patient was treated in two stages, one previously to the pubertal growth period and another during this period. First it was used a removable palatal crib, followed by a cervical headgear and corrective treatment with fixed Edgewise standard appliance. The absence of the lower incisor was compensated with anchorage loss and with restoration of the incisors residual spaces closure. The treatment objectives were achieved. At the end, there was facial harmony, a more aesthetic smile, Class I canine and molar relationships on both sides and functional occlusion. Keywords
