Surgical-orthodontic traction of impacted teeth using a cost-effective attachment

Pandurangan Harikrishnan

Impacted teeth are commonly seen in normal and craniofacial anomalies patients. About one third of impacted maxillary canines are posi- tioned labial and within the alveolus, and two thirds are located palatally. If its crown is significantly positioned apical to the mucogingival junction, a surgical exposure and a closed eruption technique will provide adequate gingiva over the crown after eruption. Currently available orthodontic attachment (Stainless steel [SS] bracket with gold chain) for closed eruption is expensive. Thus a customized, cost-effective SS chain attached to SS brackets is illustrated which is successfully used in our practice for more than a decade.
