Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea using intraoral appliance

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common respiratory disease characterized by recurrent obstructions of the upper airway during sleep. Classification of OSAS severity depends on the degree of daytime sleepiness and apnea and hypopnea index (AHI), which refers to the number of cessations of breathing per hour of sleep, evaluated during polysomnography. Among the treatments, the intraoral appliances (IOA) constitute the first therapeutic choice for patients with primary snoring and mild OSAS. Thus, the aim of this work was to report two clinical cases and show the efficiency of the IOA, reducing the AHI and amount of daytime sleepiness.
