Treatment of a Class II malocclusion with the Herbst appliance followed by fixed mechanotherapy: 5-years follow-up

This case report presents the orthopedic and orthodontic treatment of a Class II division 1 malocclusion, with horizontal growth pattern. The patient was in the pubertal growth spurt, showing vestibular crossbite in the first maxillary premolars and mandibular arch with diastemas. Treatment objectives were to correct the overbite and overjet, adjusting the transverse and sagittal relationship between the arches, taking advantage of the mandibular growth. At the end of treatment, arches coordination was achieved and a good dental interdigitation was obtained.
