Torque control and maxillary incisor retraction: What is the problem? Part 2

Renato Parsekian

INTRODUCTION: Aligners have been used to treat several kinds of malocclusions, including the most complex ones. OBJECTIVE: The present article aims to explain what is needed to control the torque of upper incisors during retraction with aligners. The relationship between the retraction force and couple needed to control lingual tipping of the crown will be discussed. CONCLUSION: There seems to be no effective tools today that allow proper torque control of the incisors during retraction.

Keywords: Orthodontics. Orthodontic aligners. Moment-to-force ratio.
