Ten years working with self-ligating brackets: Advantages and disadvantages in private clinical practice.

Introduction / Self-ligating brackets have been available on the market for mor e than 10 years and have been increasingly used in private dental offices in Brazil. / Methods / A retrospective study based on clinical expertise was carried out. / Objective / To as- sess the real impact of self-ligating brackets on private clinical practice, in addition to discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using them, as well as highlight- ing their most signiicant features in clinical, scientiic and management terms. / Conclusion / Current literature does not provide enough evidence supporting self- ligating brackets as being better than conventional ones; however, this accessory might have a great impact on clinical practice by raising up productivity and increasing orthodontists’ quality of life.
