General guidelines of self-ligating brackets.

The aim of this paper was to present some general guidelines for orthodontic treatment performed with self-ligating brackets in the daily clinical practice. We discussed relevant clinical topics, such as the ideal characteristics of self-ligating brackets, their clinical efficiency, comfort, treatment time, use of different bracket prescriptions, bracket position and associated treatment mechanics. The use of elastics at treatment onset, disarticulation, wires sequence, elastomeric chains, wire stops, springs and enamel wear were also discussed. Thus, it aimed at presenting the authors’s view of an efficient treatment mechanics using self-ligating brackets to obtain high quality results with stable outcomes
