Interdental papilla recovery through orthodontic closure of anterior diastema.

Guilherme de Araújo Almeida, Diego Nascimento Rocha

With increasing demand for facial aesthetics, patient’s expectations regarding dental treatment has increased, which emphasizes the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions. Absence of interdental papillae in the interproximal region of maxillary incisors is among the most noticeable aesthetic alterations to patients. The objective of this study is to present a case report of a female, Caucasian patient aged 46 years, who sought orthodontic treatment complaining of maxillary interincisal diastema, accompanied by loss of interdental papillae with successive unsatisfactory attempts of closure by means of cosmetic restorations. In this case report, the treatment alternative proposed and accepted by the patient was the closure of diastema by means of orthodontic movement, providing concomitant re-contouring of interdental papillae, reduction of bone defect with gains in oral aesthetics for the patient at treatment completion.
