Orthodontic treatment in adult patient using lingual technique associated to previous implants and miniscrews

Graziane Olímpio Pereira, Nicole Melres Rabello

The objective of this article is to demonstrate a clinical case of a female adult patient with multiple dental losses requiring orthodontic treatment to allow for oral rehabilitation. The essential condition was to use the appliance in the lingual face of teeth. Previously installed dental implants — during orthodontic treatment — were used as anchorage resource, in association with miniscrews, which uso has been reported in the literature since the early 90. However, this therapeutic approach used in conjunction with the lingual technique had not been reported so far. The fitting of the lingual orthodontic appliance was performed by means of a malocclusion set-up using a transfer system with splints (STC). The obtained results achieved a satisfactory occlusion, with restoration of aesthetics. The lingual technique is an excellent resource for those patients who feel uncomfortable with the aesthetics of smile during the orthodontic treatment and for having their social, professional and affective life affected by use of appliances in the vestibular face of teeth, and its association with miniscrews and dental implants prior to finalizing orthodontic has shown to be a very effective resource in complex treatments.
